OpenAI has acquired Multi, a screen-sharing and collaboration startup previously known as Remotion. Following the acquisition, Multi’s CEO, Alexander Embiricos, announced that the team of five employees will be joining OpenAI to enhance the ChatGPT desktop experience.
So much to say, but what matters most? Talking to users and shipping. With that in mind…

I couldn’t be more excited to have joined the ChatGPT desktop team. Send me your feedback and bug reports. DMs open! https://t.co/Nrn94w46ex
Embiricos confirmed that Multi will be shutting down after July 24, 2024. He detailed this decision in Multi’s blog post, stating:
“We’re beyond excited to share that Multi is joining OpenAI!
Unfortunately, this means we’re sunsetting Multi. We’ve closed new team signups, and currently, active teams will be able to use the app until July 24, 2024, after which we’ll delete all user data. If you need help or more time finding a replacement, email alexander@multi.app. We’re happy to suggest alternatives depending on what you loved about Multi, and we can also grant extensions on a case-by-case basis.”
Before its closure, Multi secured $13 million in funding from investors such as Greylock and First Round Capital, according to Crunchbase. Founded by Alexander Embiricos and Charley Ho, Multi gained recognition for its innovative video-first approach to remote team collaboration. The platform offered features like simultaneous screen-sharing and automatic deep links for code and documents.
The acquisition of Multi follows OpenAI’s recent purchase of Rockset, indicating its strategy to strengthen ChatGPT with enhanced videoconferencing and real-time collaboration capabilities.
Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
